FLOW
Founder of BRAIDSPLACE and HOMECOOKED
My name is Flow Im from Réunion island
THE BEGINNING
I started braiding in my teenage years, and I must admit, I don't remember exactly how I learned. It was during the era of R Kelly and Alicia Keys braids. With my best friend, we 'played' at braiding the hair of children and mothers in the neighborhood.
LIFE BEFORE BRAIDS
In 2006, I moved to mainland France, and after 10 years in the restaurant industry, I decided to resume my studies. After obtaining my Master's degree, I felt ready for the "real professional world," or as I liked to call it, the world of 'suits and ties.' However, even after achieving this goal, I didn't feel fulfilled at all. Working a permanent job in a bank, I decided to return to my roots and move back to Réunion.
AN UNEXPECTED RETURN
As if I had forgotten a part of myself, it was only a year after my return that I was asked, 'Are you back? Do you still braid?' and there it was... the evidence ! I started braiding again and created BRAIDSPLACE. I let go of everything else...
BRAIDSPLACE AND BEYOND...
After establishing BRAIDSPLACE, I created an association to promote the art of braiding and organized events, including 'AFROVIBES.' This project was very important to me. AFROVIBES opened doors to fashion shows and gave me the opportunity to collaborate with stylists and creators on Réunion Island. Now Is Homecooked .
While that part of my life I start to be more creative and wanted to explore more an artistic vison.
